Clashes Break Out in Egypt

Riot police fired tear gas on Monday to disperse hundreds of people throwing stones in Mahalla el-Kobra, 110km north of Cairo and the site of Egypt's largest textile factory. Read More

Iraqi PM serves Sadr ultimatum

Nuri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, has said that Muqtada al-Sadr, the Shia leader, will be barred from taking part in the "political process" unless he disbands his Mahdi Army militia.    
Al-Maliki on Monday said in an interview with the CNN network that he was determined to pursue militias across the country, including those in Sadr City - a stronghold of the Mahdi Army. Read More

One person has been shot dead in the southern Haitian city of Les Cayes during continuing protests across the country against food prices, officials and media reports say.

              Study: 1 Million Iraqi Deaths Caused by U.S. Invasion    

A leading polling group says more than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the U.S. invasion. The Britain-based Opinion Research Business found one-fifth of thousands of households interviewed had at least one death linked to the occupation and ensuing sectarian violence. The survey has a margin of error of 1.7%. The million-figure could be higher because researchers were barred from the volatile regions of Kerbala and Anbar.
